This is another way to experience Papua New Guinea and a great opportunity you wouldn’t want to miss. The major and most attractive of these shows that are famous around the world are – Mt. Hagen and Wabag Shows held in August and Goroka Show plus the Hiri Moale Festival held in September of each year respectively. Apart from these major shows, we have other minor events like the Malagan Mask Festival in Rabaul, Maborasa Show in Madang, Morobe Show in Lae, Milamala (Yam) Festival in the Trobiand Islands, Kontu Shark Callers Festival in New Ireland, Kundu Festival and many more.

We have considered the major festivals as more colorful and highly recommend that it is worth a visit and experience. Well over 100 or more different sing sing group from all around the country will be participating to showcase their respective culture.

Taking that into consideration we have put together special tour packages that include each of these cultural events. Accommodations at each of these venues during the cultural events are very critical. Thus, we urge clients to book in advance so we in turn can secure accommodation.

MT. HAGEN CULTURAL SHOW [August 2007]
GDT017A - The world famous Mt. Hagen Show is held each year in the month of August. Sing-sing groups from Papua New Guinea’s 800 different tribes gather in Mt. Hagen to perform their respective cultures and traditions in dance and mime. The participants put their best performances to out class one another. The show is held in Mt. Hagen, the third city in Papua New Guinea and it is centrally located. Other interesting activities usually take place in this show that you do not want to miss.

TARI TREK WITH MT. HAGEN CULTURAL SHOW [ August 2007]
GDT017B - A trip into the hinterlands, home to the famous Huli Wig men who are popular for their human air wigs and colorful face painting decorations. The Tari Valley has come under government control in the last 50 years and the people of this valley live the same way as they have for thousand of years. Trek through this valley and study the lifestyle of this ethnic group of great warriors.

With Mt. Hagen Cultural Show, we find this as the best program as it combines adventure and culture, giving the estranged traveler an unforgettable experience of a lifetime.

GOROKA SHOW [September 2007]
GDT017C - The Goroka Show is held in the township of Goroka, the provincial capital town of Eastern Highlands Province. It is usually held over the independence weekend in the month of September each year. Unlike the other cultural shows, the Goroka Show is unique. This is so because it’s the home to the famous grotesque mud mask Mudmen. The “Mudmen” are originated from the Asaro Valley of the Goroka area. These groups of people come out in large numbers at the show ground and perform their eerie ritual “Mudmen” performance by way of dance and mime.

TARI TREK WITH GOROKA SHOW [September 2007]
GDT017D - Again combining the spectacular Goroka Show with a trek of the Tari Valley is a great experience. Study the village life styles and mingle with the local people of this great valley.

WABAG CULTURAL SHOW [August 2007, 11 days/ 10 days]
GDT017E - The people of Enga are a unique ethnic group of people. The entire province of approximately 600, 000 people speak one common dialect. Because of this, they only perform at their cultural show in Wabag, the provincial capital town of the Enga province. Their cultures and traditions are intact and are very colorful.

HIRI MOALE FESTIVAL [September 2007, 11 days/ 10 nights]
GDT017F - Port Moresby, the gateway to all excitement and adventures in Papua New Guinea is also prominent for the explosive Hiri Moale Festival depicting the epic voyages undertaken by the local Motuans of Papua who in the past, traded clay pots for sago in the early trades. This unique exchange or barter system ensured the survival of Motuans and in return, provided the neighboring Gulf people with quality clay pots for domestic use as clay quality was poor in Gulf. The show is a composition of diverse representation from groups, making up almost 500 entertainers. Performances include traditional dances, Hiri Queen Contest, Lagatoi arrival, canoe racing, musical presentations plus arts and crafts exhibitions.
